Olivia - written and illustrated by Ian Falconer

Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 10/1/2000
ISBN: 9780689829536
ISBN-10: 0689829531
Whether at home getting ready for the day, enjoying the beach, or at bedtime, Olivia is a feisty pig who has too much energy for her own good.
Lilly's purple plastic purse - by Kevin Henkes
Publisher: Greenwillow Books
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 8/1/1996
ISBN: 9780688128975
ISBN-10: 0688128971
Lilly loves everything about school, especially her teacher, but when he asks her to wait a while before showing her new purse, she does something for which she is very sorry later.
John Singer Sargent: Outside the Frame - Bisset, Jacqueline
Publisher: Image Entertainment
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 1/1/2000
UPC: 00037429147337
Watching the video John Singer Sargent gave me a fuller understanding of the prolific scope of his artistic talent. He went on to paint many affluent Bostonians.

I am Madame X : a novel - Gioia Diliberto
Publisher: Scribner
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 3/1/2003
ISBN: 9780743211550
ISBN-10: 0743211553
John Singer Sargent was an American painter living in Paris who saw her as a "most original . . . most fascinating woman." He knew that by exhibiting her portrait at the 1884 Paris salon, he would be showing the world how talented he was as a portraitist. In Strapless: John Singer Sargent and the Fall of Madame X, Deborah Davis was able to locate private papers and documents which helped her to give a factual account and social commentary on both the artist and model. Fascinating to think that a painting of a "little black dress" could change both their lives forever.

Strapless : John Singer Sargent and the Fall of Madame X - Davis, Deborah
Publisher: Penguin Group USA
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 5/1/2004
ISBN: 9781585423361
ISBN-10: 158542336X

The art of scandal : the life and times of Isabella Stewart Gardner - Douglass Shand-Tucci
Publisher: HarperCollins
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 12/1/1997
ISBN: 9780060186432
ISBN-10: 0060186437
On my "to read" list is Shand-Tucci's The Art of Scandal: the Life and Times of Isabella Stewart Gardner, a wealthy art collector and model for another Sargent portrait, one with many similarities to Madame X.
Amytha's Picks

Dead until dark - Charlaine Harris
Publisher: Ace Books
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 5/1/2001
ISBN: 9780441008537
ISBN-10: 0441008534
This book is part of the Southern Vampire Mysteries featuring the character Sookie Stackhouse. Sookie is like any other young southern woman, except for that whole mind reading thing. Then she saves a vampire from being drained of its blood, and the world around her seems to change over night. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the next one to come out! It is currently being made into a tv show for HBO.

Roswell Season 1 - Behr, Jason
Publisher: Fox Home Entertainment
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 4/29/2008
UPC: 00024543513469
This TV show was one of the best TV Shows that the WB network has ever put out. Right away it grabs you when Liz, the main character, gets shot. Max, a boy at her high school, saves her. He heals her, but how could he do that, he's human right? I love this show, and it is so sad that it only survived 3 years.

Making shadow boxes and shrines - Kathy Cano-Murillo
Publisher: Rockport Publishers
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 9/1/2002
ISBN: 9781564968951
ISBN-10: 1564968952
This book is full of beautiful pictures that show different kinds of shrines, and comes with instructions for various projects. Kathy Cano-Murillo is a fabulous artist and a crafty queen. I highly recommend this book for anyone addicted to colorful, sparkly and glittery things. Check out her website www.craftychica.com - it has loads of projects and other wonderful things.

Napoleon Dynamite Collector's Edition - Heder, Jon
Publisher: Fox Home Entertainment
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 5/16/2006
UPC: 00024543240433
This movie is hilarious. It is about a boy named Napoleon Dynamite who is in high school in a small town in Idaho. He is the ultimate underdog but it never seems to faze him and that makes him cool. There are lots of crazy characters like his in-training cage-fighting brother, and Uncle Rico who is living too much in the 82'. Gosh!

Different Class - Pulp
Publisher: Msi Music Corp
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 8/15/2006
UPC: 00602498400517
I can listen to this CD all day. With Jarvis Cocker whispering sweet promises of ruin and debauchery through my car speakers I can't help being seduced by his wicked words. Pulp is Britpop at its best, sounding a little like David Bowie and Elvis Costello with an 80's twist.
Diana's Picks

Now esto es musica! Latino
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 2006
Sweet! A Spanish version of "Now thats what I call music!" My favorites include "Daria" by 5ta Estacion, (I love pop from Spain, or as Latin Americans call it "la madre patria"), and I"m sad to admit it, I also like "Na na na (Dulce Nina)" by the Kumbia Kings.

Las 100 clásicas de Cri-Cri. Vol. 1  - Gabilondo Soler, Francisco
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 2001
Cri-Cri (also known as Francisco Gabilondo Soler) was a Mexican composer of children"s songs. I still rock out to "El raton vaquero" and "La negrita cucurumbe."

Nine Queens (nueve Reinas) - Darin, Ricardo
Publisher: Sony Pictures Home Enter
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 1/1/2000
UPC: 00043396079014
Two small time swindlers attempt to acquire and sell the Nueve Reinas, a set of antique stamps. I love this crime caper, not only because it has so many twists and turns but also because it's set in Buenos Aires.

The legend of the Wandering king - Laura Gallego García ; translated by Dan Bellm
Publisher: Arthur A. Levine Books
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 8/1/2005
ISBN: 9780439585569
ISBN-10: 0439585562
Garcia, a popular teen fantasy author in her native Spain, has done a terrific job of creating a magical story that describes one man's search for forgiveness and redemption. If you liked "The Alchemist"by Paolo Cohelo, you will definitely enjoy reading this Cohelo-ized children's fantasy title.

The tequila worm - Viola Canales
Publisher: Wendy Lamb Books
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 8/9/2005
ISBN: 9780385746748
ISBN-10: 0385746741
This is one of my new favorites because the honest and humorous portrayal of Mexican traditions reminded me of my own childhood. My favorite chapter "Skulls and Quarters" recounts the use of a curandera, witch doctor, to cure the "evil eye" with the power of a chicken egg. This particular chapter took me back to the days when my mom would attempt to "clean" us with eggs. Thanks to the Tequila Worm, I no longer feel weird!
