North & South [videorecording] / written by Sandy Welch; directed by Brian Percival - Armitage, Richard
Publisher: BBC Home Video
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 11/15/2005
UPC: 00794051245328
Based on the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell, this BBC drama beautifully adapts this tale of class prejudices and struggle during the Industrial Revolution. Margaret Hale's family moves from their idyllic home in the south of England to the northern factory town of Milton, where she clashes with a local factory owner, John Thornton. She thinks he's greedy and controlling -- he thinks she's preachy and stuck-up. Will they ever see eye to eye? This production does a great job of presenting the characters sympathetically and showing many points of view. You feel for all of the characters, so you really want them to get along!

I listened to this album in high school and on the radio, but now that songs are showing up in "Guitar Hero" I’ve gone back to listening to it on repeat. The Blue Album is a CD so good it inspired a whole floor of guys in my college dorm to sit around with guitars and play songs together. Rolling Stone named it one of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." You should check it out too.

Publisher: Red Distribution, Inc
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 12/18/2007
UPC: 00856968001296
In just the way the film itself evokes a bygone era and yet feels perfectly updated for a modern audience, Marco Beltrami's Oscar nominated score nostalgically evokes the Italian Western music of Morricone and combines it with a more subtle and modern sound. This powerful and original score is strong enough to be listened to even if one has not seen the film.

Casino Royale - Bacharach, Burt
Publisher: Universal Music & Video Distr
Check Library Catalog Pub Date: 9/25/1990

Is there any music that represents the hipster cool of the sixties better than this soundtrack? It has Dusty Springfield's knockout version of the "Look of Love," Burt Bacharach at the peak of his powers as a composer and the jubilant staccato trumpets of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. One of the most delightful soundtracks ever recorded.

The Man Who Planted Trees - Huber, Tison
Publisher: Video Project
