October in Lamorinda means Lamorinda Reads!
October 5 - October 25
The Lafayette,
One of the true favorites of American literature, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was first published in 1900 and has stirred the imagination of young and old alike for over four generations. The story has enjoyed a resurgence of attention, thanks to popular spin-off books, Broadway shows, a new biography on L. Frank Baum and books that seek to tell the story behind the story, and a re-release of the classic movie this fall.
Brentwood CityRead
Brentwoodians are Invited to Read Firoozeh Dumas’ Funny in Farzi
7th Annual Brentwood CityRead
October 12 - November 21
In 1972, when she was seven, Firoozeh Dumas and her family moved from Iran to Southern California, arriving with no first-hand knowledge of this country beyond her father's glowing memories of his graduate school years here. More family soon followed, and the clan has been here ever since. Funny in Farsi chronciles the American journey of Dumas's family: her engineer father, a sweetly quixotic dreamer who first sought riches on Bowling for Dollars and in Las Vegas, and later lost his job during the Iranian revolution.
