The Immortal Rules : a legend begins - Julie Kagawa

ISBN-10: 0373210515
A first installment in a new series by the author of the Iron Fey novels follows the struggles of a newborn vampire whose creator demands that she accept her inevitable killing of humans.

Teen Review:

My favorite character is Allie. She starts off as a human but she’s unregistered which means she has to find or steal food and has to live in abandoned buildings. She lives with 3 other people in an abandoned school. She sacrifices herself for one of those people and then a vampire finds her and turns her. She then learns how to be a vampire from Kanin, a vampire master, before setting off on her own and traveling with a group of humans who also think she is human. She helps them get to Eden by fighting off a bunch of rabids. In the book, they mention a lot of stuff that didn’t exist like computers, cars and certain medical equipment. -- Haley B.

Sunrise over Fallujah - Walter Dean Myers

Robin Perry, from Harlem, is sent to Iraq in 2003 as a member of the Civilian Affairs Battalion, and his time there profoundly changes him.

Teen Review:

Birdy was my hot topic. He lost members of his squad, was WIA, (wounded in action) and scared out of his mind but he still pushed on. His courage has shown me that anything can happen, good or bad if you strive for it. This book screamed “morals”. You follow the morals through out the book with characters Birdy and Jonesy.-- Zachary W.

The prince and the pauper - Mark Twain
Check Library Catalog ISBN-13: 9780812417647
ISBN-10: 081241764X
When young Edward VI of England and a poor boy who resembles him exchange places, each learns something about the other's very different station in life.

Teen Review:

This is the story of what happens when a prince (Edward VI of England) and a pauper meet and decide to trade clothes just for fun. It’s only meant to be for a moment but it turns into a hilarious high-profile case of mistaken identity! The situations the characters find themselves in often had me laughing out loud.-- Jessica J.

Nutrition diva's secrets for a healthy diet : what to eat, what to avoid, and what to stop worrying about - Monica Reinagel
Check Library Catalog ISBN-13: 9780312676414
ISBN-10: 0312676417
A top-ranked podcast host and board-certified nutritionist challenges common food myths while making meal-organized recommendations for how to bolster health and energy through strategic food choices.

Teen Review:

I found the topic of eating healthy fish interesting. Some of the fish I thought was healthy was not. Some of the healthier fish choices are Bluefish, striped wild bass, croaker, sturgeon and flounder. Fish such as grouper and marlin have many concerns. I think this book is very educational because it does not tell you to starve yourself. Instead it teaches you what your body needs-not what your body wants.-- Cassandra F.

Catching fire - Suzanne Collins
Check Library Catalog ISBN-13: 9780439023498
ISBN-10: 0439023491
By winning the annual Hunger Games, District 12 tributes Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have secured a life of safety and plenty for themselves and their families, but because they won by defying the rules, they unwittingly become the faces of an impending rebellion.

Teen Review:

I find Katniss to be an interesting character because she is very clever, independent, and modest. She puts a whole new twist on the story because her personality is very relatable. For example, she can take charge or second guess herself, yet she does so in such a way that is completely real. If you read the first two books in this series, you will love it when all of the hints about the plan to overthrow the capitol fit into place. It will leave you wanting more.-- Nautica H.
